Full of Firsts

This past month has been full of firsts for Carson!

FIRST TIME TO SIT
You guys... our baby is growing!! So sad, but so fun to see him hit these milestones :) Miles thinks it's pretty cool too!

FIRST TIME TO TRY SOLID FOODS
Since Carson has started to sit, and about 6 months, it's the perfect time to start solids.

We opted for squash first. They say it doesn't really matter how you start, but I figured veggies would be best. Miles was excited and wanted to try too!

I have to say, Carson didn't like it. Miles didn't at first, but proceeded to eat the whole thing! I was all pumped to think, hey! Maybe THIS is how we get Miles to eat more veggies. Yea...nevermind. The novelty of it was gone and he hasn't done it since.

So far we've tried squash, green beans, peas and apples. It seems he has an issue with the texture and just sits there with his mouth open and a disgusted look on his face before be spits everything out and/or gags. Or, maybe he just doesn't like the taste. Who knows. We'll keep trying though! [Shout-out to my Aunt for the adorable bib!]

FIRST TIME TO SWING
Miles LOVES to swing. Since Carson is sitting, I added the Little Tikes swing to our swing set, and it's been a favorite for all kids - even the big cousins. Carson was a little hesitant at first, but seems to like it now. And as you can tell, Miles was pumped!

"Mama! Pu Carchee!!"

FIRST REAL COLD  :(
Carson has been at the mercy of Miles' school germs and it's crazy to me that it's taken this long for Carson to really get hit with something. Since he was a baby, we've seen a few sniffles here and there, but this go around he just seemed so down and out. Fever, not eating as much, sleeping a lot. Poor thing...

I know he doesn't feel well, but sleeping babies are just the cutest

Miles the Gamer

The girls were over for happy hour one day and wanted to play a game. So, we pulled out a favorite from camp - red light green light. Miles was so excited to join! I was thinking he'd just run around and not quite understand what was going on, but this kid surprised me! He might not know EXACTLY what to do, but he was copying the girls and thought it was the coolest thing ever. So cute to watch. :)

High FIVE

Five months. FIVE! I can't believe it. He's growing up far to fast.

To see all monthly photos, go here!

This month, we imitated Calvin's transmogrifer machine and created TWO little monkeys with Carson's cutie monkey onesie :P

Carson is really coming into his own and showing more and more of his personality. He's a very tolerant little guy - I say "very" because when a 2 year old is poking you, shoving toys in your mouth, rolling on top of you, up CLOSE in your face, spitting on you, etc etc, you'd think you'd get annoyed, right? Carson just lays there and takes it...sometimes finding it to be pretty funny which Miles absolutely lovessss. So yes. He's a tolerant one. He's also super smiley, fast to laugh, not quick to cry, flexible, super mobile, cuddly (more so than Miles ever was), laid back and an overall easy kiddo. Let's keep this up, okay bud?

More about Carson these days:
- He's rolling from back to front on one side and front to back on both sides. You lay him down and minutes later, he's rolled clear across the floor.
- We're transitioning him into a sleep sack and it's a slow go. He's fine during naps but is waking up more frequently than normal at night. Ferber is in our future...
- Is obsessed with chewing, sucking and putting any type of fabric in his mouth - current favorite are the burp rags. Sounds familiar right?! So weird that both our boys do/did this.
- He's figured out the bouncer and loves it
- Wearing 3-6mo Cat and Jack and 6mo Carters, but they're all too small. We're off season from Miles because who would have thought it would be 100 degrees in September? Yay for new clothes!
- Holds toys and brings them to his mouth. Working on the bottle.
- He's found his feet but isn't as interested in them as compared to his hands
- His legs are so chunky! We're in size 2 diapers and may need to move up soon because of his rolls. ha!
- Baby blues! They are holding strong!
- Blowing raspberries with his lips. Spit. Everywhere
- Thinks Miles is pretty funny and loves watching him
- Our schedule has settled to 2 hours of awake time between naps with naps usually lasting about 45 minutes. We've gotten a couple longer ones recently.
- Eating 6oz every 3 hours and we have to stay on top of this because he doesn't tell us when he's hungry until it's too late and he's HANGRY. At this point, he refuses the bottle. No bueno...
- He's trying so hard to move across the floor when on his belly. But, after so much effort, he ends up just twirling in circles. lol

Miles was jealous of all the attention, so we got him all spiffed up and grabbed some shots with him too. Such a sweet big brother :)

How's Miles? Well, all in all, he's doing great. His speech is still a little slow to come so we've noticed him getting frustrated when we don't understand what he wants or what he's saying. This leads to some less than optimal behavior - throwing toys, yelling, hitting. Some at Carson's expense.

But, while we have some struggles (which are to be expected), we see just how much he loves his brother. Kisses on the head. True concern when Carson cries - because like said above, he doesn't cry much. Hugs! He sits on the floor while watching tv and holds Carson's hand. It's so sweet to watch them creating this relationship between themselves at such a young age. I think these guys are going to be great buds.

Cheers to our boys!

M.I.A.

It's conference season....meaning Shorty's is crazy busy.....meaning I've slacked a little on my blogging. But, both kiddos are napping so I'm taking this chance to break the silence!

The three amigos. Man these kiddos LOVE each other. So happy Miles has friends so close in age :)

Carson is working on his bottle holding skills

The boys just loungin. So cute

Lia found this little tree frog in the backyard and Miles was obsessed. He thought it was the coolest thing ever and kept them entertained for probably close to an hour. "Mama! Fog!! FOG!!"

I swear Lia is some kind of animal whisperer. Her with any living creature is incredible to watch

Okay - back story:  Natalie and I were talking about how our 'ups' were terrible. So, the guys tried....and it turned into a ridiculous battle of 'who did it better'. ha!

Donut date with Miles!

Big boy haircut :)

Dad in training!

Uh....hello big boy! Where'd my baby go?! #ThatHatThough

First arms out nap and he did great! Still working on the full transition

This is a daily occurrence. So cute!

Mike and Stephen went out to a whiskey tasting downtown and there were barbers and tattoo artists at the event. Let's just say Natalie and I were just waiting to see what kind of hair/ink the guys would come back with.... Thankfully the whiskey was good enough to distract. Ha!

What is it with my kids and eating their snuggies?! lol

Smiling sleeping baby :)

Miles contracted "growths" at our backyard picnic - ie: yogurt drops stuck to him compliments of Aunt Becky

Stephen's been working a lot, but I try and make sure the kids see/talk with him as much as possible. I'm loving this Facetime snapshot :)

A proud Miles after his tower creation

My loves - minus Carson
