Miles' first day of school was today and Stephen and I were as prepped as we could be. This past Tuesday we did a parent orientation where Miles met his teachers and hung out in the classroom for an hour or so while we went to a meeting. The director went through the parent handbook, dos, donts, what to bring, etc, etc. It was pretty intense given the fact that this is just pre-school. But, hey. Better that then not at all...
Miles was very interested and ready to get down and play when we dropped him at parent orientation. At pick up - that was a different story. He was very sad and cried the minute he saw us. It left a little un-easiness in both of us wondering how the first day's drop off would go. I got everything ready for him the day before so the morning would be easy and relaxed. Leaving plenty of time for pictures, of course!

He wasn't in a super smiley mood, but we got this keeper. That's enough I'd say |

Snot and all. It's perfect. |
Once we got to school, we waited for the doors to open and headed in - this time knowing where to go! We got to his classroom, were told where everything was supposed to be put, what to do, etc. I knew my best option for an easy departure was his favorite thing - fish! There is a fish tank in every classroom with various styles of fish. I walked him over to the tank where he began to ooo and aw over the little guys while a teacher met us over there, hoping to distract. I gave him a kiss, Stephen said his goodbyes and we left. Almost immediately, he started to sob. We could hear him all the way out of the building. :(
Needless to say, there were no happy go lucky pictures of him in his classroom.
I headed to the shop knowing I'd have until 2pm to get some work done. I was very productive and had a lot on my to-do list, which was great because I needed the distraction. I was super worried that he wasn't able to calm down or was having a really bad time. But, I had to suck it up and hope the day was going well.
1:45pm - ok, can't take it. I'm leaving.
I waited in my car until the appropriate time of 2:00pm and headed in, wondering what I'd find.
There he was, awake from nap, walking around with his lovey, seeming to be pretty happy. Relief! I said my hellos and he gave me big hugs and no tears! He seemed a bit out of it, but the teacher said he had recently woken up and was still in a fog. Each kid gets a progress report at the end of the day and this was his:
The teacher said he was sad for about the first hour, but once snack time hit, he was better and when they went outside, he was happy. He actually slept, which is amazing. He's never slept on a nap mat before or been in an environment anything like this, ever. So that's great.
When we got home, we had a snack and he's back to his old self! Running around the house like normal.

A little blurry - I caught him on the run! |
And for those interested, here is his daily schedule:
We'll see how he does on Tuesday - Day 2!
